Huts for Mutts Dog Rescue is for sale.
It is time to admit defeat, the Rural Culture of Hamilton has won this round but ultimately will lose the war.
Ignorance, inhumanity, and gross selfishness seldom go rewarded forever.
OUR SANCTUARY IS CLOSING BUT OUR FOCUS REMAINS TO END THE KILLING OF INNOCENT HOMELESS ANIMALS AND WE DO THAT
BY PROVIDING FREE AND LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS!
Our heart goes out to those of you in rescue...it is a long and thankless road you are walking (those wonderful
adoptions, to few and far between, are the only payback that kept us going for so long).
For eight years we've offered responsible pet parenting counseling; low cost and free spay/neuter; our
sanctuary was a humane option to killing and hanging dogs on the fence...what we got in return was nothing.
This RURAL CULTURE mindset is so deeply ingrained, inbred in locals that in eight years we could not
replace it with a more compassionate mode. Even CHURCH LEADERS(!) would not get involved, together they stood their
ground with the citizens and declared, "We do not get involved in animals issues."
A Hamilton school bus drove CR 412 twice a day and was not offended by the site of a companion animal stretched
out on the fence in such a taunting manner. That driver's bus transported the children whose family owned that dog. Dare
say the site was just another snapshot in the daily life of Hamiltonians? Neither did the driver consider the impact
such a view would have on other children on the bus. Sad.
When we called authorities to complain we were told "sorry, can't do anything about it. It is part of
our rural culture." RURAL CULTURE!?
I think of the Penn State response, "I did what was legally expected of me." Thank heaven the rest of the
nation demanded not just legal expectations but moral as well. Hamilton has failed the moral test.
Without the help of spiritual leaders our mission was more difficult but I still believed there was enough common
sense that folks would realize their taxes fund animal control and by lowering the kills their tax dollars would be used in
other pressing endeavors...schools, senior citizens, law enforcement, parks, hospitals....
By taking as many dogs out of their shelter and offering low cost and free spayneuter we lowered the kills
at the local pound tremendously-- but the community failed us when it consciously chose to close their eyes to the many
backyard breeders, the irresponsible pet owners, the very perpetrators of high kill rates at shelters. Three blind
mice see how they run...well, many, many more than three blind whatevers.
I expect in no time the kills will return to the disgusting levels of one dead animal per ten citizens and
that is just in town. Out in the country...start counting the dead animals on the fencelines.
"It costs money our citizens don't want to spend." Is the reply from Hamilton County Commissioners
who have never, ever funded any kind of animal control. The "five cent bullet" is so much cheaper. Hanging them
on the fence is macho.
Regarding the puppymill...my commissioner's take is, "if it is on private property I cannot do anything about
it legally...." We will thank Republican State Representative Sid Miller of Stephenville for giving this puppy mill legalized
status because as he views it, it is a "Texan's entreprenurial spirit" in action! Sid! this lady doesn't
pay taxes on her "entreprenurial" endeavors that include breeding wolf hybrids and breeding dogs kept on heavy tow chains.
Disgusting.
I've spoken with both perpetrators of evil; the puppy miller and the dog killer. The one
who killed the dog and hung it on the fence...a deliberate action meant to harrass and cause mental anguish to the owner and
her children. He sees it as independant action on the part of a TEA PARTY SUPPORTER WHO BELIEVES YOU RINOS
WILL BRING ABOUT THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. He is in his element in Hamilton. This is the TEA PARTY in action!
The community is reflective of Republican morals and dare I say the deliberate lack of spiritual guidance.
Pew dusters at best.
So you see, by remaining in Hamilton and running on the gerbil wheel that goes no where. Change will have
to come from within.
Already there is light at the end of the tunnel with a new project in a neighboring community! Churches want
to be active in animal issues, as ANIMAL ISSUES ARE COMMUNITY ISSUES AND CHURCHES FOLLOWING THE TENETS OF CHRIST WORK TOWARD
MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THEIR COMMUNITY. Three cheers for spiritual leadership that means something!
To date our outreach project has funded the sterilization of over 700 companion pets and with A $33,641
state grant to work with as well (hopefully) as another grant focusing on the community of Oak Trail Shores in Granbury we
will move beyond the 1000 mark before the end of 2012! Times each of those sterilizatins by 6 (small average litter)
and that number by 6 on to infinity and this is the impact we have thus far made...and hope to continue.
Please, stay with us...join our "loop" and I will keep you informed of the progress! PUSH SPAYNEUTER and
speak up loudly, but with restrained civility, about the disgusting injustice of "rural culture."
Thanks!
Marion~
We wish the citizens of Hamilton the best of luck and hope their next generation can direct the community away
from this disgusting acceptance of abusive Rural Culture. I believe you agree--there just isn't any justification
for hanging a companion pet from a fence. Nor innocence in remaining silent.
