She roams at ease on the quiet streets of Carlton....
The shame of backyard breeders and puppy mills!
A small sampling of the more than 1,000 faces rescued through the years....
This is an acceptable facet of "rural culture?" Surely not! Warning: disturbing photo

Too few volunteers make this work...and make no mistake it is a lot of work!  But if not us--who?

Quiet place to stop and destress for a moment.

ADOPTED!

She was spayed and micro-chipped and on death row.  When we notified the Plano, Texas owner that we took her out of the pound the gentleman said, "oh, I gave her to my sister in Hamilton.  She's been real busy, uh, I guess she didn't have time to check on her whereabouts.  I'll tell her you have her."
What?! (She's busy!  What kind of rationalization is that?)
Sister, oh sister... that irresponsible, $%&^* sister--she never contacted us.  Just as well!  This lucky dog has been rehomed into a wonderful, responsibile home that loves her!

So sad.  He and a companion were used exclusively for backyard breeding.  Absolutely no socialization.  He won't come to you, he won't respond to treats, he plays with the other dogs and appears quite happy to exclude people from his life.  His companion was adopted and has become a "pet" and we all feel this guy ought to have the same fate.

ADOPTED!

If you don't take 'em I'm just gonna have to shoot 'em.  Yeah, we thought it was no more than emotional blackmail too, but why take the chance.

Pups are numerous and seemingly one big blob of black and white.  (below)

Adopted one and all!

Mama is a medium sized, gentle-dispositioned dog...who was abandoned, taken in by an individual who allowed her to cohabitate with an intact male...guess what happened.  She lost her "rescue" home when (surprise!) she became pregnant.

Puppies, puppies, puppies...in a community offered not only low cost spay/neuter but free spay/neuter for pets belonging to low income owners...what is it going to take?  Better education and a curriculum that instills at an early age a sense of civic responsibility.
