September
2003 marked a new age for Hamilton County homeless companion animals. The mission started simple enough when
two high school seniors took one dog off death row, saw to his health and grooming needs, and rehomed him.
Their compassionate efforts
attracted a web master, a bookkeeper and too few grunt volunteers who courageously took on what would become a monumental
task.
The organization moved
from the back yard to a few acres provided by a benefactor. Today, invigorated by a wave of new volunteers, Huts
for Mutts is evolving into a regional rescue...your support, both moral and monetary is vital...and much appreciated.
Keep checking back as I put our story on line...what a story it is!
My name is Marion,
I own the property where Huts for Mutts sanctuary is currently located. Like many folks involved with
rescue I've suffer from major compassion fatigue for some time but cannot turn away from the animals in need.
Who will take my place?
Ours is not a one-man
operation by any means. Linda is on property for what must seem to her like 24/7 taking care of the ever increasing
paper trail created by adoptions and our very successful spay/neuter program! The phone rings constantly. "I
got a dog to get rid of when can you come pick it up?" This is our reality.
Please, if I have to endure another "it's the economy" excuse I will throw
up. At some point individuals must take responsibility for their own poor decisions.
Hamilton County,
Texas has no animal control. Nothing. Nada, zilch, zippo. Too poor, I'm told, our community cannot
afford animal control. The "5 cent bullet" has always worked in the past and it's cheap.
Whew, talk about
dodging the bullet...how lucky are the hundreds (over a thousand?) of dogs who have passed through our gates.
